France and Germany have always been considered the germinating grounds for most of the philosophy, and you can't think of imagining yourself as a good student of philosophy if you don't know (even a bit) of Kant, Hegel, Foucault, Derrida and others. But now its a common knowledge that most of these scholars were well-read in Indian Philosophy and Sanskrit Language. To add to your list of these philosophers the name of Derrida comes to the mind. Though its a common knowledge now, yet i should like to add: Derrida was well read in Buddhism. The library he often visited ( i don't know its name) had a huge collection of books on Buddhist philosophy.Though a hearsay, some scholars say he could often be seen poring over these books. Now many books have come up which talk of Derrida's philosophy and its parallels with Buddhist philosophy. In the world of theory, horse has always been tied behind the cart! There is one more fact: Entire western philosophy harks back to Greek as the fountain-head of 'all' philosophy yet its never mentioned that Greek philosophy arrived in the West through the mediation of Arab philosophy. Till fourteenth or fifteenth century nobody knew of Plato or Aristotle in the West! ( One of my friends pointed out this fact to me, and he cited Hegel for this revelation of sorts!)Ravendrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11623746655537336304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6603410120997476097.post-79062330782781092782008-01-12T11:01:00.000-08:002008-01-12T11:01:00.000-08:00besides echoing sunny's sentiments, i would like ...besides echoing sunny's sentiments, i would like to add that modesty is overrated. if you have it, flaunt it to the hilt. especially, if "it" is substantial and real.tikuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04656982206149513439noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6603410120997476097.post-11277994338695434932007-11-07T22:21:00.001-08:002007-11-07T22:21:00.001-08:00Great piece!Great piece!Rashneekhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15211622625031393809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6603410120997476097.post-71445682646927986422007-11-07T22:21:00.000-08:002007-11-07T22:21:00.000-08:00Very well conceptualised and extremely well writte...Very well conceptualised and extremely well written.Rashneekhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15211622625031393809noreply@blogger.com
